Wednesday (May 12) A seminar entitled 'Lesson from a world in crisis and the new reality' will be organised by the Institute of Chartered Accountants of India (ICAI) Bahrain Chapter at 6.30pm at the Al Dana 2, Gulf Conventional Centre, Gulf Hotel in Adliya. Art Select in Dubai will open 'Taqaseem II' featuring four Bahrain-based artists from the Bahrain Contemporary Art Association - Ahmed Anan, Mohammad Al Mahdi, Hassan Sari and Jehan Saleh today at the Art Lounge in Grand Hyatt Dubai from 7pm to 10pm. Each artist will display three artworks using different techniques and mediums. The exhibition will be held until May 26. The Association of Mar Ivanios College Old Students has announced the 10th anniversary celebrations of its annual event - 'Nestle Taste of India Cookery Competition' at Bahrain Keraleeya Samajam from 9.30am. The competition will cover five categories - salads, vegetarian, non-vegetarian, desserts and healthy meals. Organisers have planned a grand prize distribution ceremony in the evening with dance performances and music by artists of Samudra Arts International. With the 'Dhwani Tharang' well-known Indian musicians Pandit Tarun Bhattacharya, Dr Nandini Muthuswamy and Abishek Basu will entertain guests while a Sri Lankan dance troupe by Chandana Wickramasinghe will perform traditional, folk, creative and modern dancing. The event will also feature Indian dance and free style dance.

A collective women's exhibition titled 'Stare at the other side...' will open until May 30 at 7pm at the Albareh Art Gallery in Adliya. Eleven women artists chosen from Bahrain and the region will display canvases or photographs depicting their vision of art. The exhibition is an open invitation. Participating artists are Faika Al Hassan, Haela Alwaari, Lobna Al Amin and Nabila Al Khayer from Bahrain, Bahrain-based Egyptian artists Jehan Saleh and Karima Taha, Leila Chalabi and Zena Assi from Lebanon, Shadi Ghadirian from Iran, Shereen Audi from Jordan and Stephanie Devico from Morocco.

Sunday (May 16)

The Shaikh Ebrahim bin Mohammed Al Khalifa Centre for Culture and Research will present the works of Bahraini artist Khalid Farhan from 7pm until June 5 at the Bin Matar House in Muharraq. He will present a selection of sculptures in brass and bronze, ranging from small, hand size pieces to forms that are over two metres high. Farhan was born in Muharraq and is also a sculptor in wood, stone, brass and bronze. The Bin Matar House is open Saturday to Thursday, from 9am-1pm and 4-7pm. Monday (May 17)

Sounds Great Acapella singing workshops will be held today, May 24, 31, June 7, 14, and 21 from 7.30pm to 9pm in Adliya. Cost is BD60 for six classes or BD10 per class.

The course will feature Acapella pieces in popular, contemporary and gospel styles and singing technique fundamentals such as breathing techniques, placement and singing in tune.
