The Bahrain Football Association is keeping tight-lipped over who will be the national team coach after losing out on their original target, leading German manager and former international star Ulrich 'Uli' Stielike.
Officials blame a press leak for the loss of their first choice as word spread and a Qatari club side manoeuvred in with an unbeatable financial package during negotiations to replace Milan Macala.
Stielke coached a number of national teams including Switzerland and the Ivory Coast and was on the books of Qatar's Al Arabi Sports Club before signing for rivals Al Sailiya Sport Club.
Sources told GulfWeekly: "We had hoped to convince Stielke to join us into leading our team forward into the 2011 Asian Cup Finals but what can we do? Now we are closing in on another top manager. We have made our offer and are awaiting an answer.
"We will not be disclosing his name to avoid it being circulated and allowing someone else to move in."
The Bahrain Football Association hopes to finalise the deal by the end of May.
