Artist Hussain Fateel dreams of opening a school of art in Bahrain to encourage a future generation of creative minds to develop their talents.

His own creations on canvas are being snapped up by art lovers and he is putting the art of teaching into practice in schools across the kingdom.

The 29-year old Bahraini from Hamad Town, who is also in much demand as an interior designer, said: "I love to paint. I am happiest when I am painting, when I wake up in the morning, before I go to sleep at night - any time I get the chance!

"I particularly enjoy playing with colours and creating different shades. Putting what you feel into effect is very special.

"I have just built my home now but due to space constraints I cannot hold lessons just yet as it can only accommodate my workshop."

For now, he has to settle for teaching art to primary school students through the Ministry of Education.

Hussain's artistic journey started with family, friends and acquaintances asking him to create graphic designs on the walls of their homes. Demand steadily grew and he started to concentrate on interior designing as a serious profession.

Ten years ago, however, he let his heart rule his head and decided to take a leap into the unknown and make art his full-time career. He surprised his whole family by showcasing his talents through a series of powerful portraits. He created one of his mother, an uncle and even one touching example of his late father.

Hussain has also mastered the art of calligraphy. He said: "I like to try out different types of scripts - Arabic, Japanese and Chinese. In one piece, for example, I used several different languages to highlight the word 'peace'."

His reputation as an artist continues to grow and he has received numerous accolades and awards from as far afield as Dubai and France.

Hussein has staged several shows around Bahrain too and his most recent 'Reflections - a Ramadan Retrospective' exhibition was held at the Ritz-Carlton Bahrain Hotel & Spa where he showcased his work amidst artists from across the world.
