The Sar Music Centre will open its doors to music lovers on Saturday with a tour to see what's on offer before starting an 'exploring instruments' course allowing children to try out different instruments over 12 weeks. Registration is open for lessons in piano, violin, viola, cello, flute, saxophone, clarinet, guitar and drums alongside singing. Places are limited.
On September 25, the centre will host Jamie Vendera's 'Raise your Voice' workshops open to singers of any age. On October 16 it will officially open its new 'art space' curated by American artist Seana Mallen in the centre's foyer with an exhibition entitled 'The Art of Jazz'. The evening will also feature a concert at 8pm.
The Sar Music Centre was established a year ago and has grown to be one of Bahrain's leading music teaching establishments.
Its 13-strong teaching team is headed by director Lydia Martin, a composer and singer and has had her works performed on national radio in the UK. Together with conductor Alistair Auld, she also leads some of the best young choirs in the Gulf.
The versatile centre also hosts MASK (Music and Stage for Kids) and following the success of Oliver and The Wizard of Oz will be announcing a new production later this month. Its 'Rock Shop' courses allow students to get a chance to learn how to write songs and perform in a band.
The centre is open from 9am to 12pm and 3pm to 8.30pm. For further details contact the 17794898, 39047734 or email sarmusiccentre@gmail.com
