A PLAN to build a new mall in Saar is on the drawing board of leading local developer, Seef Properties.

The 30,487 square metre project which will have a hypermarket, retail shops, children's play area and restaurants, will also incorporate the Saar Cinema as part of a three-storey complex.

The project has been approved by the Northern Municipal Council's technical committee but is awaiting further approval from various government offices.

Robert Addison, general manager, Seef Properties said: "The Shopping Complex in Saar is an important development in our portfolio and we have been meticulously reviewing its progress to speed up the operational aspects of its construction.

"We are planning to complete the project in the short to medium term, which will prove to be a boon for residents of the area for their daily shopping.

"It is a core development for Seef Properties and the board and management wish to have this project completed and operational as soon as possible."

Sunil Balan, operations manager of Bahrain Cinema Company, which oversees the management of Saar Cineplex, said discussions were underway but, for now, the present Saar Cineplex will remain open for business as usual.
