Last Thursday night saw Twin Palms Riding Centre hold the first of its 'Curry and Quiz' nights.
The atmosphere was electric and the food was exceptional, thanks to resident chef Cynthia. Even the evening's humidity failed to put a dampener on the night.
There were four rounds featuring questions on current affairs of Bahrain and the region, general knowledge, animal planet and pure trivia.
There was fierce competition, but it was the quietest team coming out from left field that won by over a furlong beating rivals such as the Legendary Hairy Beavers, Angels & Demons and Rainbow, amongst others.
Team 'Break a Leg' claimed victory, with team captain Theresa and members Jan Nina, Jennak, Anki and young Kate Addison.
The other teams are now vying desperately to readdress this situation and Twin Palms will be running another quiz night in a few weeks time. The event was such a success that the stable is considering organising its own quiz league to give everyone a chance to win.
The winning team will be treated to more of Cynthia's sumptuous cooking this week with a celebratory meal.
Along with the quiz night, things are hotting up with competitions which are being staged this weekend, all in-house, but still very exciting for everyone involved.
Twin Palms Riding Centre will start the weekend with its In-House Show Jumping competition, set to kick off at 9am on Friday.
The first class is for the aspiring small beginners and the jumps will be low enough for any child to be led over if they wish.
The next class will be an easy introduction back into jumping with the fences again being low (50cms).
The next two classes are designed to re-introduce fences to more experienced riders and horses with the final class of the day up to 100cms. Scheduled as clear round jumping, it is rumoured there may be amendments made on the day to the exact nature of 'clear round'. All will be revealed in next week's Too Hot To Trot.
The Dilmun Riding Stables will also host its inaugural In-House Show Jumping event on Friday afternoon, with a 4pm scheduled start. Events start with clear round classes one for ponies and small children, and then another clear round for everyone-else.
Next will see a combination class of Junior and Adult one, which will be against the clock. Designed to be a fun day for everyone, the Dilmun is also getting everyone back into competitive mode for the show jumping season ahead.
Shakhoora Riding Centre is also starting its season of events this weekend. On Saturday a stable management class is being staged giving instruction and points on how to best turn out your horse or pony. There will also be advice on how to plait a mane and tail and to improve a horse and pony's appearance.
Shakhoora will be hosting its very own In-House Mounted Showing Competition the following weekend on Friday, October 15. There will be individual classes for both junior and adults with the pair - horse and rider - being judged on their turnout.
Next Friday, Twin Palms Riding Centre will also host the first of its In-House Dressage Competitions, with a Working Equitation Class that will be run for Juniors and Adults.
So there you have it, the season is well and truly underway, and it all sounds amazingly good fun. I would personally encourage you all to go along to see these different events and enjoy.
