TALKS are taking place to set up an Inter Milan Football Academy in the kingdom, following a successful visit by club executives and former stars.
The Inter Milan delegation visited the kingdom last week on the invitation of the President of the Supreme Council for Youth and Sport and President of the Bahrain Olympic Committee (BOC) Shaikh Nasser bin Hamad Al Khalifa.
The Italian giant's array of trophies including the European Champions league trophy, the Scudetto for the Italian League, the Coppa Italia and the Supercoppa Italiana were placed on display for fans.
Inter Milan's owner and President Massimo Moratti said the trip reaffirmed the club's close ties with the kingdom. It follows the Italian's visit in 2007 when the club played a friendly fixture against the national side.
Amongst the stars visiting last week were legendary goalkeeper and club ambassador Francesco Toldo and Luis Figo, the retired Portuguese midfielder.
Bahrain Olympic Committee Secretary General, Shaikh Ahmed bin Hamad Al Khalifa and Mr Moratti spoke of the importance of possible future opportunities such as creating an 'Inter Academy' in the kingdom at a press conference at the Ritz-Carlton Bahrain Hotel & Spa.
