AROUND 250 people gathered at a Sitra showroom for last week's unveiling of the new 2011 Ford Mustang, writes Charlie Holding. Two versions of the iconic muscle car have been launched in Bahrain, the V6 - which features a 3.7 litre engine with 305hp and the V8 - a 5.0 litre engine with 412hp.
Y.K. Almoayyed & Sons chief executive Alan Guest, who was present at the launch, believes these supercharged sports cars will further the legacy of the marque.
He said: "Mustang is already a well received brand in Bahrain and I'm confident that the V6 and V8 will build on this great brand which is being sold by a great company.
"I'm confident that Mustang enthusiasts will be delighted with all that these new models have to offer."
Almoayyed Motors assistant marketing manager Mohamed Mahmood said: "The Mustang is one of the strongest supercharged sports cars in the market and we are expecting both the V6 and V8 to sell very quickly.
"Bahraini's love sports cars, it's in their blood. Even before the Bahrain International Circuit was built there was still a lot of drag racing going on here."
During the launch, plans to establish a Bahrain chapter of the Mustang Club, which already enjoys great success in the US, UK and parts of the Middle East including Dubai and Kuwait, were revealed.
Starting prices are BD11,500 for the V6 and BD14,500 for the V8.
