When a meteor shower bombards parts of New York City, NASA discovers a gigantic asteroid will collide with Earth in 18 days, killing all life on earth. With help from the military, NASA scientists, led by Dan Truman, plan to embed a nuclear bomb hundreds of feet within the asteroid, splitting it into two parts that will both safely fly past the Earth. NASA contacts the best deep-sea oil driller in the world, and beg him to help to save the world.
