CHIN UP it's all over today ... a month long of hair-raising antics at St Christopher's School have seen the top lips of school masters and sixth form boys sprout an impressive growth.

Even the lady staff members and female students have been showing their support by wearing moustache-style pins on their blouses.

Movember, the month formerly known as November, is a global moustache growing charity event held each year that raises funds and awareness for men's health.

Head boy Mazen Al Maskati, has been championing the cause, inspired by his dad, Jalal, an oncologist. He said: "There is some excellent work in the community highlighting women's health issues such as breast cancer and it is just as important to raise awareness of conditions which affect men, like prostate cancer."

Mazen, 18, an A'level student, is aiming to win a place at Imperial College in London to study medicine and hopes the school's initiative will raise around BD500 for the Bahrain Cancer Society.

Head of Geography Barry Hobday said pupils and fellow staff members have rallied round and were inspired to show their support after watching a power-point presentation featuring clean shaven teachers with fun-styled moustaches painted on their faces.

"One month later the real hairy growths were probably even funnier," he admitted. "It will be interesting to see how many of us have picked up our razors this morning!

"Throughout Movember we have had the opportunity to enlighten people about the joys of a hairy upper lip whilst raising awareness and funds for men's health which is definitely a good thing."

Prostrate cancer, one of the most prevalent types in men, is a form of the disease that develops in the prostate, a gland in the male reproductive system. It tends to develop in men over the age of 50.
