Enterprising mum Jane Sheikh is helping to take the hassle out of dressing up children for the variety of school 'themed events' taking place on the island, writes Asma Salman.
Only last month pupils dressed up as ancient Egyptians at St Christopher's School on the same day as youngsters at the British School of Bahrain were togging up to characterise their Roman Empire history lessons.
Scottish-born mother-of-four Jane Sheikh, 48, set up Party Party, a company, specialising in providing fancy dress costumes and running children's playgroups.
Jane, who is married to Mohammed, a telecoms expert, explained: "Being a mother of school-going children I soon realised there was a demand for original costumes in the event of a school production or a theme day.
"Mums face getting flustered making trips to the local souq and chasing tailors in order to organise the right costume for their children. So there was a space in the market to fill in that demand."
Jane, from Jidhafs whose children - Saffiya, 16, Hannah, 14, Kasim, 12 and Sharifa, 11 - attend the British School of Bahrain, registered her company in June and started taking orders when school reopened in September.
She recently provided costumes to Alia School for Early Intervention and is filling up her order book with individual requests.
Jane said: "It took me six months to set up my company. Although it was emotionally and physically exhausting it has proved very enjoyable too. I'm running a professional company and after all this hard work I do not want to compromise on quality which is why I'd rather have a few people paying for quality rather than do something on the cheap.
"Having said that, my work is also about having fun ... walking in the souq and letting my imagination run wild. We have a laugh and at the same time come up with products that make children happy."
Jane sources all her fabrics from local shops and works with two professional tailors.
She also has a French couturier on board who pitches in with her ideas and does the intricate detailing in the costume. Jane's costumes for children start from BD20 and BD40 for adults.
Her previous experience of being a teacher and events manager in France and the UK gels in well with her business.
She also runs drop-off playgroups for children and is currently running one at the Riffa Views Golf Club's Friday brunch where she reads, sings, does arts, crafts and builds lego with the children.
But the sky is the limit for Jane as she hopes to eventually establish a one-stop party place combining event management, children's costumes along with entertainment and edutainment to provide a one-stop-shop comprehensive service for busy mums in Bahrain.
