13 teams to battle it out in Match Race challenge

The ninth Kingdom of Bahrain Match Race Championship begins today off the coast of Bahrain Sailing Club at Al Jazayer Beach in Zallaq. More than 50 sailors from 10 countries, making up 13 teams, are competing in the five-day championship organised by the Bahrain Maritime Sports Association (BMSA).

India will be spearheaded by three teams, including two women's, three from Russia, two from Bahrain and one each from Finland, Estonia, Turkey, Morocco and Kuwait.

After practice races today, the teams will battle it out in round robin matches from tomorrow at 9.30am.

"It's a great honour to have this tournament organised on annual basis here in Bahrain," said BMSA president Shaikh Khalifa bin Abdulla Al Khalifa at a press conference held at the club.
