THE 'Icon Sheene', one of the fastest and most expensive road motorcycles in the world, will be part of the Gulf Bike Week 2011.
It has been built as a tribute to the life and career of motorcycle racing legend Barry Sheene. The British-born double world champion remains one of the most famous names in motorcycling even today despite his death seven years ago.
Freddie Sheene, his son and Icon Sheene designer, said: "It has been a great experience putting my ideas towards the bike - it has come a long way since the beginning of the year. It's incredible to ride and very quick, although, the world class engineering also makes it safe and rideable for bikers of most abilities."
The Icon Sheene is a new breed of motorcycle, referred to as an 'Ultrabike'. The 1400cc turbocharged engine produces a staggering 250bhp, reaching a top speed of 200mph.
The Sheene Ultrabike, was designed in collaboration with the Sheene family, engineers, mechanics and friends of Barry Sheene. The hand-built motorcycle pays strict attention to quality and detail. The degree of precision engineering results in superior handling and performance in every ride.
The bike, retailing at around BD62,000, will be bespoke for each owner, with a special fitting and a photographic journey of the build process.
Available in Satin Black or Titanium silver, each bike is tailored to the buyer's height, weight and size. Production is limited to 52 bikes, one for every year of Barry Sheene's life.
Gulf Bike Week will take place from February 10 to 12, at Dubai Festival City and organisers estimate it will attract 40,000 visitors from across the region.
