VIVA marked World Autism Awareness Day on April 2 by launching a two-month long campaign to support autistic children.

The campaign aims to create awareness about the disorder and raise funds in order to provide specialist educational support for autistic children from needy families.

It also aims to highlight the importance of early screening and education to create public awareness.

One in every 150 children has autism and 90 per cent of those do not receive proper education and 75 per cent are bullied.

Autism affects the ability to adapt and communicate with the outside world, however, research has shown that intensive training programmes help autistic children to become more independant and productive. VIVA customers can now support the education of autistic children via SMS - with donations deposited to Alya School for Early Intervention for the Education of Needy Children with Autism.

To contribute one dinar, send the number '1' via SMS to 88143. Customers can donate up to BD10 a month.
