Gents edge past Ladies

 Royal Golf Club 2011 Captain Edward Daly led his team to a narrow victory over Lady Captain Debbie Lane's team in the annual Gents Captain vs Ladies Captain Challenge. The match went right down to the last game with Daly's team managing to hold on for a 9 1/2 to 8 1/2 victory.
The event also included a pair's scramble competition which 2009 Lady Captain Sara Thompson and husband Peter won with a great net score of 56. A countback was needed to separate second and third places with Nigel Brough and son Faris just beating John McIssac and Murtuz Zamanly - both teams finishing with a net score of 56.5.
The captains also organised a nearest the 'tricky pin' side competition on the club's Montgomerie championship course. Flags on holes 11 and 6 were placed in extremely awkward positions but promising junior member IIya Goniker managed to win both with a fine display of his short game.
