Fan s of the recent Charlie’s Angels movies have been given a taste of the new TV series after a short clip from the pilot episode was released by ABC.
Following in the footsteps of Cameron Diaz, Lucy Liu and Drew Barrymore is a tough job, but Rachael Taylor, Minka Kelly and Annie Ilonzeh seem to be managing well in the first teaser clip from the new, soon to be aired television series.
The brief clip shows that the new girls on the block are trying hard to live up to the legacy of the original series and film adaptations.
The clip opens with blonde Abby (Taylor) attempting to crack a safe while being watched by her fellow Angels. Refusing to fane under the pressure, she quips: “Last time I cracked one of these it was under two minutes but that was after two Cosmos and I was hanging upside down.”
Minka Kelly plays Eve – a former street racer who finds herself in deep trouble after developing a habit of stealing cars.
The third angel is Annie Ilonzeh, who plays Kate, a Miami policewoman who lost her fiancé and career in a staggering fall from grace. In an ironic twist of fate Drew Barrymoore, who starred in the recent films, has taken up the mantle as executive producer of the show.
Although the teaser trailer did little to give anything away about the storylines we can expect later this year, it definitely reassured fans that the series would be following in the footsteps of its movie predecessors with explosions and raunchy outfits.
In the one-and-a-half-minute clip, the girls are seen in 16 different outfits – suggesting the actresses’ wardrobe will be a vital feature of the series.
Bosses at ABC cast all three girls for the new series in January after the pilot script was finalised.
And now, after the trio finished shooting the pilot, Charlie’s Angels has been picked up for a full series by bosses at ABC.
The girls are all relative unknowns in the UK, although their faces will be familiar among American TV and film audiences.
Minka, 30, is one of the stars of high school TV series Friday Night Lights and was also voted Esquire’s ‘Sexiest Woman Alive 2010’.
