ATHLETES from across the Gulf are gearing up for a series of biathlon events to be held at the Marina Club in July. The OC Sports Management, a sports marketing and events company, has organised the events to further push the kingdom as a sporting destination.
Sports event consultant, Adnan Al Qassab, said: “A biathlon is any sporting event made up of two disciplines and in our case we will feature swimming followed by running. We have competitors arriving from Saudi Arabia, UAE and Qatar. Our goal, aside from keeping Bahrain active, is to become the region’s sporting hub.”
The three races will include the Summer Biathlons, a ‘Try a Bi’ and a ‘Juniors Try a Bi’. The Summer and ‘Try a Bi’ are open to men and women aged 16 and above while the Juniors is open to competitors aged between 12-15.
The Summer Biathlon will consist of a 600m swim and a 5km run. Both ‘Try a bi’ events will feature a 200m swim followed by a 3km run.
The first event will be staged on July 8. Contenders can register on July 7 between 5pm-8pm. All winners will receive trophies. Entry fees range from B10-BD25 depending on category. Contestants will receive a T-shirt, swim cap and goggles and barbecue passes.
