THERE was double delight in the Al Zeera family household when soccer-mad brothers Ahmed and Hussain Taqi Abdulrasool Abdulnabi Al Zeera were both picked to join the Manchester United Soccer School for a week-long coaching session, writes Mai Al Khatib.
They fly out to England on July 23 with 31 others handpicked by professional coaches in a promotion by telecom provider Viva which attracted thousands of entries.
Ahmed, 14, said: “When we got the call Hussain and I were so excited. It really is a dream come true.”
The boys go to the Lycee Francais MLF School and train together five-days- a-week at the Al Shabab Club in Jidhafs. Hussain, 13, said: “I am very happy to be going with Ahmed. I really look up to him and hope that one day I will be a great player just like him!”
Ahmed already plays for Bahrain’s Under-15 national team and hopes to follow in his father’s footsteps. Dad, economist Dr Taqi Al Zeera, used to play professionally for the club now known as Al Najma.
Proud mum Majida was happy to find out both her sons were on the trip. She said: “It would have been sad if only one had gone through and the other one had to stay at home. They are both skillful players and live and breathe football. We even delayed our summer vacation arrangements to ensure they would be free to go if chosen.”
