COMIC BOOK star Spider-Man became a real-life superhero when he helped track down a missing schoolboy on a shopping trip at Bahrain City Centre.

The web-tastic crusader, more used to cracking crime and saving citizens from evil-doers, had just donned his outfit to start his stage show when an alert went out that seven-year-old Aren had wandered off.

One minute he was walking alongside his big sister Aarushi, 14, and little sister, Varenya, nine, and the next he had vanished, said anxious dad, Adudeep Beniwal, a senior operations manager.

Spider-Man was on his way to perform in front of thousands of shoppers when he found the distraught youngster near the entrance to the indoor souq. The Nadeem International School pupil soon had a smile back on his face when the webbed hero-of-the-hour called over security officer, Ammar Abdul Nabi, to take him to the service desk to be reunited with his family.

“It’s not every day a comic book hero becomes a real-life hero but we would like to thank Spidey for his kindness and quick-thinking!” said Mr Beniwal from Zinj.

Spider-Man was in town as part of the mall’s summer-long kid’s entertainment programme.

During the week, crowds of children watched in wonder as he attempted to recover the stolen ‘Jewel of the East’ from the villainous Electrode and Black Cat during three 20-minute long stage adventure shows.

Spider-Man put all his martial arts and acrobatic talent to good use as he battled his enemies to recover the stolen gem.

But in one afternoon he became a bigger hero in the eyes of Aren’s family than the audience!
