Engineers Yousif Janahi and Irina Kotova have designed a second dream home which is up for sale with funky lighting fixtures, swanky hotel-style bathrooms and a beach-inspired swimming pool.

The contemporary two-storey villa, located in Saar close to St Christopher’s School, has been constructed using high-quality wood and natural stones to capture an earthy feel.

The couple sold their first uniquely-designed property a few years ago but when they started building their second property, they had difficulty sourcing quality lighting fixtures and bathroom fittings to meet their aspirations.

Their frustration, however, provided a business opportunity. Entrepreneurial Irina and some friends decided to start-up Kotto Homes in Tubli, which now specialises in supplying unique lights and bathroom fittings.

Irina said: “Lighting is very important when it comes to designing an interior because it sets the mood for a room.
“I have experience working with interior designers so I knew what the latest trends were and what was fashionable. For Kotto Homes we decided to ‘go modern and different’.

“As for the bathrooms, well, we’ve always loved the kind you see when staying in top-class hotels so we thought; why not imitate that style in a home.”

Yousif added that the creation of a beach-style swimming pool makes the property even more ‘comfortable, modern and inviting’. When entering the villa, guests are greeted with the first ‘edgy’ lighting fixture in the foyer.

The ground floor includes a study that can be converted into a guest bedroom with a stylish guest bathroom. It features gold-plated tiles and a rain shower.

There is also a large living room boasting a focal wall made of natural stone and flooring laid-out with porcelain tiles.

The stainless steel kitchen is spacious and fully-customised. There is also enough room for a dining area. The glass doors in the kitchen and living room fold-in like an accordion or can be completely removed.

There is a storage space under the staircase for shoes and other items.

The first floor consists of a family room, a games room for the children and three bedrooms including the master bedroom.

All bedrooms feature parquet flooring, built-in wardrobes and ensuite bathrooms.

The master bedroom features a dressing area and a bathroom that puts all other bathrooms to shame. It consists of Italian fittings, ‘his and hers’ sinks, a rain shower and a massive Jacuzzi tub with tear drop lights.

The bathroom also includes an entrance to the garden terrace, which can be seen from the master bedroom.

The other two rooms were designed with children in mind. One bedroom even features a map of star constellations on the ceiling made from little LED-lights that twinkle and change colours.

The second floor consists of the laundry room and maid’s quarters.

The beach-like pool is in the back garden that boasts lush greenery, large balloon-like lights, a bathroom with another rain shower and a tree house.

The pool features a fountain and more LED-lights.

There is also on outside kitchen, storage room and driver’s room.

The villa also boasts a large double garage and lots of parking space for visitors outside. There is also a second garage on the right of the house for more cars or even a boat.

The pair now have plans to design another home.
