THE Walking Dead’s Robert Kirkman has insisted that the upcoming second season will be ‘more visceral’ than the first.

Kirkman, who serves as an executive producer on the television adaptation of the popular comic book, told TV Line that some viewers may be shocked by the 90-minute season premiere.

“I think we cross some lines in this fi rst episode,” he said. “I’m excited about coming out of the gate with that punch in the very fi rst episode of this season, so hold on to your seats.”

Kirkman, creator of the original Walking Dead comic, also hinted that future episodes will take a more scientific look at the zombie outbreak.

“We never really got into all the nutritional components of a zombie’s diet or whatthey eat on a regular basis,” he said. “We’re going to learn a little bit more from a scientific point of view about their nutritional composition. It’s an all-encompassing exploration of the digestive system of a zombie.”

The second season of The Walking Dead will see Glen Mazzara assume the role of showrunner, following Frank Darabont’s abrupt departure. Mazzara recently insisted that the show will not suffer in Darabont’s absence, promising a ‘smooth transition’.

The zombie drama, which stars Andrew Lincoln and Sarah Wayne Callies, will return on Fox on October 21 at 10pm.
