Gulf Weekly Fantastic scores

The inaugural Taiwan Cup was held at Awali Golf Club on Friday and won by Dave Bridger with a fantastic score of 41 Stableford points, writes Matt Chalmers.

Bridger, who fired a net 62 in the Pan Gulf International Golf Day two weeks ago, even chipped in for birdie at the difficult sixth hole. This impressive run of form has meant that his handicap been (justifiably) slashed from 19 to 15 in two weeks!

Ateeq Majali also scored 41 points but lost on the count back rule as Bridger had a better second nine score.

Majali, who also won best net score on the second day of last week’s Bahrain Open, has had his handicap cut from eight to seven.

Another player who has been on form in recent weeks is Anil Nair, who finished in third place with a score of 40 points. Nair, who lost on count back at the Lucite International competition and then shot a net 60 to dominate on the Pan Gulf International Golf Day, is now playing off a handicap of 16.

Fourth and fifth places were claimed by Graham Tole and Yvonne Newall respectively. Both players finished on 39 points but Tole’s back nine of 20 points was enough to shoot him up the leader board. Newall won the Ladies longest drive on the seventh hole.

The final three prizes went to Abdulla Mubarak, Simon Brown and Brian Davis who each scored 38 points in the difficult conditions.

In the side prizes, Rebecca Fisher and EAK Mohamed won the nearest the pin contests at the fourth and sixth holes respectively. The men’s longest drive at the 18th went to Steve Litherland.

Awali Golf Club would like to thank The Taiwanese Trade Mission for their kind support and contribution to a great day.
