Gulf Weekly Write to the editor

IT was interesting to read that Guys and Dolls will be the next show performed by the talented youngsters of St Christopher’s School.

I was lucky to see their version of Les Miserables and thought it was a stunning affair, so I’ve already bought my tickets for the new musical.

I love the theatre and miss the Broadway experience now that I’m living here in the Gulf. I understand a new national theatre will be opening up in Manama in the New Year.

Wouldn’t it be great if some of the kingdom’s school and community productions could be staged in such a theatre – I’m sure parents and supporters of the arts would pack the place out!

Ian Onions,

HAVING read Stevie George’s column last week reference Movember I just thought you might like to know that the male staff at St Christopher’s School are joining in again!

With reference to the Whisperer column and the giant fish found in Amwaj

THIS fish is a local type which probably was thrown away by fisherman or got caught in their nets somewhere. It probably got stuck for a while, went bad and had to be thrown back into the ocean. It was washed up last Friday.

Elie Abboud,
by email.

I HAVE taken the opportunity to look at the picture and I’m convinced that it is a Kingfish, not particularly dangerous but very tasty. However, I am no expert. Definitely looks like someone missed out on the chance of a decent dinner!

Roly, Bahrain.

IT is definitely a member of the Mackerel family and it looks like it could be the narrow-barred Spanish Mackerel (Scomberomorus commerson) but I am not 100 per cent sure because of the quality of the picture online. It is what you would call a Kingfish in the Gulf – but we can’t call it that because there are so many different Kingfish that it is confusing!
