Gulf Weekly Isaacs grabs title

The Eid ‘String’ social competition was held at Awali Golf Club on Sunday with more than 50 golfers in the fray.

The fun, nine hole competition was an interesting format whereby each player received a piece of string equal in length (in feet) to half of their club handicap.

The competition was split into two sections; the front nine and the back nine. On the front nine, David Isaacs used his 14 feet of string to his advantage and was the overall winner with an impressive total of 27 points.

Young Christian Trzebinski continued his good form and finished in second place with a score of 26 points. Colin Ingledew claimed the final podium place with a fine score of 24 points.

On the back nine, Yvonne Anthony stole the show with a superb total of 26 points in her first competition of the season.

Pete Rogers, who made back to back birdies on the 16th and 17th holes came up one shot short but finished in second place on 25 points. Ian McCahill came third with a great score of 24 points, just ahead of Kerry Diaper and Sandra McCahill.

Meanwhile, Awali Golf Club look forward to a fantastic month of competition starting with the National Hotels’ Greensomes competition taking place on Friday and Saturday.

Following that, the 24th Annual Ladies Open will be held at the club on November 25-26.The event is open to all female professional and amateur golfers with a registered handicap.

Last year’s event was won by Emma Boyd who came from two shots behind on the final day to win the trophy by six shots. Boyd shot a final round 82 to finish ahead of Ronelle Du Toit and Sarah Hobday.

Spectators are more than welcome to walk around the course during play and view what will, no doubt, be an excellent spectacle of great golfing action.

Sponsors of this year’s event include Bapco, Batelco, Chevron, GPIC, Projects, Harley Davidson, Ahmed Zayani and Sons, Mohammed Jalal and Sons, Banagas, Panorama Contracting, BMMI, African and Eastern, Riffa Views, Tatweer Petroleum, Saudi Pan Gulf, DHL and AXA Insurance.
