Gulf Weekly Turner scores brace as Arsenal Blue rout Red

ARSENAL Red were left feeling blue after a soccer master class by their club colleagues left them with no points and a few red faces after a 4-1 trouncing.

The Blue started strongly in this Arsenal Soccer School Bahrain Ladies League derby fixture taking the lead thanks to a strike by midfield ace Sam Turner, followed by a well taken goal from Janet Kellagher bringing the score to 2-0 at half time.

Shortly into the second half, the Blues notched a third with a powerfully drilled shot by Turner again. The Reds did not give up and after some great defending from Hayley Kunde, teammate Darya Vyshegoroskaya bagged a goal against the run of play.

The Red team came close again on a couple of occasions with striker Wafa Obidait latching onto a couple of through balls but couldn’t find the back of the Blue’s net.

The Blue then finished with a late goal from striker Dalal Abdulrahim to end the game 4-1. The soccer school’s senior coach, Deena Rahman, said: “Both teams played some very good passing football which was great to see. I was proud of both sides.”

Meanwhile, St Christopher’s Seniors remain top of the table and maintained their unbeaten record with an impressive 11-0 victory over Eastern Flames.

Striker Rebecca Sharrock was on fire grabbing five goals, winger Millie Gallagher bagged four and midfielder Tamara Kawash added a brace.

With one game in the league to play, the Seniors only need a draw against the Bahrain U16 National team to win the title and secure the coveted GulfWeekly Premiership trophy.

They will have to play better than St Christopher’s Intermediate who went down to the U16 girls 3-0 thanks to goals by Hessa Zayani, Noor Anwar and Zainab Alqaidoom.

Bahrain international midfielder Rahman added: “All three scorers have been heavily involved with the senior national team with Zayani and Alqaidoom recently attending the West Asia Cup competition in Abu Dhabi. This valuable experience is proving crucial.”
