Kempinski Hotel clinch Pro Am title

British PGA Professional Derwynne Honan led his Kempinski team to victory in the Royal Golf Club’s fourth annual Pro Am tournament with a team score of -17.

Honan’s team was sponsored by the newly-opened Kempinski Grand & Ixir Hotel Bahrain City Centre and consisted of Simon Brebner, Sean Stanley and Royal Golf Club golf operations & events manager John Wilson.

“Conditions were very gusty which didn’t make it an easy game but we had a great time out there nonetheless,” said Honan, managing director of Magnolia Park Golf Club in Buckinghamshire, England.

German PGA Professional Chris Hurter’s team, sponsored by Al Iman Gasket Factory, took second place with a score of -16 while the youngest member of the team, 17-year-old Ilya Goniker achieved a hole in one on the 12th.

Briton Tim Backhouse, a teaching professional based at the Royal Golf Club brought his Environmental Turf Technology (ETT) team into third place with a score of -15 on countback.

In the individual professional’s category of the competition, Hurter came first with a level par score of 72, Daniel Owen was second with 73 (1 over par) and Mark Underwood came third with 74 on countback (2 over par).

A prize-giving ceremony sponsored by Projects System Group was held in the club’s Majlis function room.
