It was a great feeling to see a large part of Bahrain making great efforts to celebrate its 40th National Day. As an expat who has been witnessing the turmoils of Bahrain in the last few months, it was a delight to see the number of cars adorned with the national flag driving around the main roads of the kingdom. Everywhere we went there was a great spirit of celebration by both locals and expats. The most popular malls were abuzz with shoppers and people selling jackets, flags and caps sporting the national colours. The papers were full of pictures of citizens enjoying themselves at the aerobatic show and at Adhari Park.
I hope this celebratory feeling continues and wish Bahrain and its people a great new beginning.

I enjoyed your African edition last week. First we had the Niblett family’s safari to Kenya on page one and inside we had the editor visiting Uganda, although I think Kenya was dropped into the TravelWeekly article once by mistake.
Uganda is a fantastic country on the up and with direct flights now from Bahrain with Gulf Air to Entebbe I’m sure it will attract many visitors from the kingdom.
I’m glad Stan Szecowka enjoyed our wonderful markets and the country’s polite and quietly-spoken people. However, I agree with him about the birds in Kampala, they can be real pests!
An Ugandan in Bahrain.
Editor’s note: Apologies for the mistake. Uganda is a hotspot and well deserving of its Lonely Planet rating as the number one country to visit in 2012.
