IN my opinion Kangoo Jumps is the best work-out I have ever had in my life! It is worth all the hype and I think that’s mainly due to Comanici, the most stylish kangaroo I have ever seen.
While watching a 15-minute demo led by Comanici and her lovely lady troopsbouncing up and down I thought to myself that looks like a lot of fun. Also, they made it look so effortlessly easy.
I grabbed a pair of boots, strapped them on like rollerblades and stood up only to realise I have no balance whatsoever. Comanici assured me that this was normal and I will pick it up quickly and she was right.
I started bouncing from one end of the room to the other in no time, all the while with the biggest, and probably stupidest, smile on my face. I felt like a big kid on a trampoline. If this is referred to as exercise then I was ready to sign up.
The next hour was a mixture of pleasure and exhaustion. In all fairness it was my first time and I am out of shape, so hush.
I loved how Comanici kept encouraging us throughout while also chanting don’t quit, smile and remember the style.
While attempting to be graceful and think ‘style-it up Mai’, I felt the burn in my legs, my arms, my gluteus maximus and later on my abs. I broke such a sweat and, although at times I could not catch my breath, I did end up feeling very energised afterwards.
My friend Leena Al Olaimy a 31-year-old corporate social responsibility consultant, was also hooked on the class.
She said: “It is a really enjoyable workout. The time goes by so quickly because you feel like you’re being silly bouncing around but you are actually burning a lot of calories in the process. By the end of the class I was so out of breath. I would definitely do it again.”
Tunisian Faten Al Seyah, 29, a stewardess with Bahrain Air also finds the class fascinating. She said: “I started one month ago and it has become such an addiction. I feel lighter and more toned. I love the atmosphere from the music to the energy Comanici delivers. It really is fun for all.” - Mai Al Khatib
