ADMIRERS flocked to catch a glimpse of India’s star restaurateur Sanjeev Kapoor who flew into Bahrain for the grand official opening in Seef Mall of the first international branch of The Yellow Chilli chain of outlets.

The master chef charmed his fans with a wave as a large crowd of food lovers joined VIPs to experience his unique flavours of India.

Mr Kapoor said: “The Yellow Chilli’s philosophy is to offer diners a great taste of India while bringing a smile to their faces. We like to surprise people with the twist we give to our preparations.

“Many people think of Indian food as a combination of rich gravy, lots of cream and spice … but that is not what people like to eat in modern India.

“We offer traditional Indian dishes that are relevant to the present day. It will be the best – there are no two ways about it.”

The opening ceremony was held under the patronage of the Minister of Industry and Commerce Dr Hassan Fakhro and in the presence of Indian Ambassador Mohan Kumar and Mohammed Adel Fakhro, chairman of SunCity Ventures, the Bahrain company awarded the franchise. The celebrity chef is also an author and TV presenter. He hosts the longest-running TV food show and his 24-hour channel attracts around 40 million viewers.

He said: “Fakhro Group understands the quick service market. Ours is a casual type of restaurant and they have very good ideas on how to offer good quality food at very reasonable prices.

“The location is great. It is right where the entry and exit to the cinema halls are located. Fortunately, wherever we have opened, we have become a ‘dining destination’ and I am confident of repeating the success story in Bahrain. The challenge is to offer five star food but NOT at five-star rates!”

The Yellow Chilli, which boasts a chain of 11 restaurants in India, will open its 13th outlet in Kathmandu, Nepal, on Thursday.

Three more eateries are expected to open in the Indian cities of Chandigarh, Kolkata and Ludhiana in the near future. There are also continuing discussions about opening a further three branches in Bahrain in the coming year.
