Bahrain International Circuit (BIC) successfully hosted its second installment of the popular Speed Weekend last Friday and Saturday.

Scores of fans attended the event, which showcased three of the region’s top series, namely the WGA Supercars Middle East Championship, the BIC 2,000cc Challenge and the Maserati Trofeo JBF RAK Middle East Series.

Shaikh Salman bin Isa Al Khalifa, the BIC’s chief executive said: “There was plenty of action to enjoy from three of the most competitive championships in the Middle East, and the excitement resonated amongst all who attended and we saw people on the edge of their seats.”

Six different drivers – all of whom are among the Arab world’s top talents – climbed to the top of the podium in celebration of their respective race victories. Raed Raffii and Tarek Elgammal of VIVA Racing Team picked up a win apiece in round three of the 2011/2012 WGA Supercars season, while Stephen Kellogg and Shaikh Hamad bin Isa Al Khalifa shared the honours in round five of the BIC 2,000cc. Joe Ghanem and Fahad Al Gosaibi rounded out the weekend’s winners, with each emerging triumphant in round two of the all-new Maserati Trofeo series.

The BIC will be holding a final installment of Speed Weekend for the 2011/2012 season on March 30 and 31. It will feature both the WGA Supercars and the Porsche GT3 Cup Challenge Middle East.
