So Fabio Capello has resigned from being English manager and even though he has the highest percentage win record, I still firmly believe Bobby Robson was a far greater manager for the England team than Fabio ever could have been.
Even if you think about Howard Wilkinson and Bahrain’s very own Peter Taylor who both held the reigns of control for just one match each (and unfortunately lost them) I don’t think percentages tell the full story – unless you mention Steve McClaren who is just an idiot who has no idea.
England managers seem to come and go quicker than a Carlos Tevez loan deal so wouldn’t it be nice to see the FA place the hopes of a nation into the hands of just one man for more than a couple of years.
Which brings me nicely onto Mr Ryan Giggs OBE – who just this week has signed another one-year extension to his Manchester United contract, which will take him into 22 years of playing the highest level of football at the same club. This is such a rare commodity these days and compliments keep flying in about how he has adapted his game to suit the ever-changing pace of the sport. If you’re old enough, can you remember what you were doing 22 years ago?
In the early 90’s I ventured off to do my first summer as an 18-30’s Club Rep in the sunny Balearic Isle of Ibiza (or Eyebeeefahh if you were from the south of England) – back in the days when the super clubs were just starting to establish themselves.
I remember insane parties, crazy people, sleepless weeks and mental taxi drivers. Ibiza though has a special feel all of its own – it really cannot be described in words but has to be experienced, and this was helped with some of the classic songs of the era:
Urban Cookie Collective – The Key The Secret Culture Beat – Mr Vain Degrees Of Motion – Shine On Snap – Rhythm Is A Dancer 2 Unlimited – No Limit Cappella – U Got 2 Know Prodigy – Out Of Space
Now that I’ve travelled back to some younger days (stop laughing), I’m going to go dig out some ‘Old Skool’ tunes to do the ironing to – so till next week, let me leave you with this: “If you can’t beat your computer at chess, get your own back and beat it at kick boxing!”
