Hugh Jackman’s follow-up to 2009’s critically panned X-Men Origins: Wolverine will hit cinemas in July 2013.
The film’s release has been held back by script rewrites with Mark Bomback (Race to Witch Mountain, Live Free or Die Hard and Total Recall) and production delays.
The Wolverine sees Logan (Jackman) searching for answers about his past in the Japanese criminal underworld where he finds both love and tragedy and winds up fighting against the Silver Samurai.
The release date will see the movie pitted against Lionsgate’s Dirty Dancing remake and Disney’s Phineas and Ferb film. Director Matthew Vaughn was recently confirmed for a follow-up to X-Men: First Class, the first instalment of which featured Jackman in a cameo.
Jackman told Digital Spy last autumn that he thinks the script for The Wolverine feels like ‘the best we’ve ever had’. He said: “The story was intricate and interesting and I thought it would be ideal. This is a movie I’ve been longing to make.”
