Gulf Weekly Ongoing feud threatens future of comedy series

The fate of hit show Community is uncertain following a feud between the show’s star, Chevy Chase, and its creator, Dan Harmon.

The now infamous fight began after Chase, 68, walked off set during the filming of an episode and asked for a rewrite, saying he would politely decline from acting in the scene unless it was redrafted.

Harmon responded by attacking Chase with insults in front of his family, cast members and crew. This provoked Chase to send an angry, expletive-filled voicemail to Harmon insulting his lack of writing skills and weight issues.

Harmon later attended a show of 150 people at a comedy club in Los Angeles, where he publicly humiliated Chase and played the voicemail. A video recording of his actions went viral, leaving fans furious.

Harmon issued an apology via his Tumblr page shortly afterwards but did not directly apologise to Chase himself, but to the fans of the show. He admitted his actions were ‘childish, naïve and unprofessional’.

It is still unclear whether or not Chase will return for a fourth season of the series.

Community airs on Mondays at 8pm on OSN Comedy.
