IN the next few days we will see teams from many countries, in numerous leagues, ending that long journey which makes up a season – hours of huffing and puffing chasing a football, interspersed with increasing their Air Miles accounts and hoping they’ve done enough to keep fans and owners happy throughout their own particular soccer kingdom.
The only thing guaranteed during this time is that there will be celebrations and there will be heartbreak, and if your particular team is engaged in any of these antics then I wish you all the best luck in the world.
Football may not be your favourite sporting pastime (motor sports, for example, take precedence for me) but surely everybody must agree that this season the English Premiership has shown why it is so popular around the world. The action has been thrilling and this particular title will be decided on the final day of the season, plus a relegation battle and those elusive European places up for grabs.
So, in dedication to all that will finally be decided this weekend, here are some songs with that flavour about them:
Boyz II Men – The End Of The Road
Journey – Don’t Stop Believing
The Beatles – The Long And Winding Road
Kings Of Leon – The End
Mika – Happy Ending
Nelly Furtado – All Good Things Come To An End
Maisonettes – Heartache Avenue
Once again, good luck to all fans involved with promotions, relegations, play-offs and everything else that goes with it – and let me leave you with this thought: whoever said it’s not the winning, it’s the taking part that counts – probably came second.
