THE popular smartphone application developed by OMGpop, Draw Something, may have taken users by storm since its release in February and made its way to the top of the charts on Apple’s App Store, but now, the CBS network has outbid multiple networks to nab a pilot episode of a primetime TV show based on this Pictionary-like game.
The game and OMGpop was bought by Zynga in March for $180 million and by April alone the application exceeded 50 million downloads with 14 million daily users.
The ‘reality pilot’ will feature the team of American Idol host and Keeping Up With The Kardashian’s creator Ryan Seacrest, as well as Micheal Davis and Adam Sher as executive producers and will derive from the earlier version, Win, Lose, or Draw.
The network released a statement which reads, “Each week, teams of celebrities and everyday users will test their skills in front of a studio audience to earn money and big laughs. Viewers can also play along at home for a chance to win prizes and compete with the celebrities.”
No details about the air date or the host has been disclosed.
John Schappert chief operating officer at Zynga, said: “We think of it as a game that’s an evergreen franchise. It’s a game that will live on for years.”
Hollywood trade paper, Variety explained that if the pilot is successful and a series is ordered up by CBS, the show is likely to begin airing early next year.
