A movie about the making of the children’s classic tale Mary Poppins is hitting the big screens.

Colin Farrell is in negotiations to join Emma Thompson and Tom Hanks in the film entitled Saving Mr Banks.

The movie tells the story of P L Travers (Thompson), the woman behind the Mary Poppins books, and her 14 year battle with the discomfort and apprehension over selling the rights of her personal book over to Disney. The children’s book is inspired by the suffering in Traver’s life and her relationship with her father, who the character of Mr Banks is based on.

The film will be directed by John Lee Hancock, known for The Blind Side, and written by Kelly Marcel, best known for the TV series Terra Nova.

The script will go back and forth between 1962 and 1907, covering Travers childhood in the countryside of Queensland and shifting to her experiences with Walt Disney (Hanks) and the team of executives. Colin Farrell will be playing her father, George Banks.

Landing fittingly at Disney Studios, filming will start in autumn this year in Los Angeles.
