Gulf Weekly Web-slinger returns to the big-screen in reboot

The Amazing Spider-Man will hit the big-screen tomorrow, only this time Tobey Maguire is out as Peter Parker, and 28-year-old BAFTA- winning actor Andrew Garfield is in.

Only five years after closing the franchise, Columbia Pictures have decided to come back with a reboot.

Ironically-named director Marc Webb, best known for the romantic comedy 500 Days of Summer, focuses on the untold story of Peter Parker. The film also stars Emma Stone, Rhys Ifans, Denis Leary, Martin Sheen and Sally Field.

Based on the Marvel comic by Stan Lee and Steve Ditko, the story follows Peter, an outcast at his high school, who is raised by his uncle Ben (Sheen) and Aunt May (Field) after his parents abandoned him. In a quest to find out where he came from, he discovers a briefcase that once belonged to his father and begins to uncover his parents’ disappearance, which leads him to Oscorp and the lab of Dr Curt Conners (Ifans), his father’s former partner.  Connor’s alter-ego comes out to play, The Lizard, and Peter must make a life-altering choice to use his power and become a hero.
