DreamWorks Animation SKG Inc. is paying $155 million to buy Classic Media animation studio, gaining rights to a range of classic movies and TV series.
The studio that made animated classics like Shrek now has rights to reboot different franchises that include Casper the Friendly Ghost, Where’s Waldo?, Lassie and Rocky & Bullwinkle.
The company is now also a beneficiary of The Lone Ranger movie, starring Johnny Depp, which will be released next July.
Additionally, with the live-action Where’s Waldo? movie in development since 2009, the purchase is enough to finally get the striped-shirt man into theatres around the globe.
Classic Media’s library of intellectual property features over 450 titles and more than 6,100 episodes of animated and live-action programming. They also own the largest comic book archive as well as media rights to the titles in the Golden Books library.
