The 2013 Lexus ES line-up was unveiled at a ceremony at the state-of-the-art Lexus showroom in Sitra, writes Charlie Holding.
The event, organised by Ebrahim K Kanoo, attracted the media and spectators eager to catch a glimpse of the new luxury sedans.
“Since it was first introduced in our market, the Lexus ES has brought new levels of refinement, sophistication and quality to the luxury segment,” said Ismail Akbar, executive general manager of sales at the kingdom’s distributor. “And through the years it has consistently been a sales leader for us”.
The marque features a progressive new design and enhanced handling and the new range is set to continue as a favourite of executive motorists in the region, its makers say.
Ayman Shehadeh, Toyota and Lexus brand manager, added: “The new ES offers a distinctly bold and progressive styling, an interior as advanced as it is accommodating and more dynamic handling. It will surely capture your attention as well as your imagination”.
The ES350 is powered by a 2GR-FE V6 Dual VVT-i engine. The six-speed automatic ‘Electronically Controlled Transmission’ with intelligence provides enhanced performance and fuel efficiency.
Meanwhile, the ES250, which is powered by a 4-cylinder Dual VVT-i engine, has achieved advanced engine performance and lower fuel consumption.
The sleek sedan is more aggressive-looking than ever thanks to its distinctive spindle grille. It features a lower, progressive profile and boasts clean styling lines from front to rear. The wheelbase has also been lengthened by 45mm which provides a more spacious interior.
High Intensity Discharge headlights have been adopted and LED daytime running lights and combination rear lamps have also been added.
The interior has been designed to provide both a sense of openness and security. Sight lines and visibility are improved, controls are logically placed, and new cabin materials express a high level of craftsmanship.
The new line-up comes with an array of safety options including a Blind Spot Monitor which helps detect vehicles overtaking, Lane Departure Alert and Pre-Collision System which uses sub-millimetre wave radar to detect obstructions and prepare the vehicle for a potential collision.
The ES features 10 airbags as standard, including dual-stage SRS airbags for the front seats as well as driver and front passenger SRS knee airbags, front and rear SRS side airbags, and full-length SRS curtain shield airbags. Whiplash injury lessening front seats are designed to limit excessive head movement in certain rear-end collisions helping to decrease the severity of whiplash-type injuries.
Prices have not yet been announced.
