IT’S hard to believe but cute camels are being made into mincemeat in our neighbouring state of Abu Dhabi.

The Emirates Palace Hotel organised a unique contest to choose the best burger sandwich made of camel meat.

Media representatives who attended voted for the tastiest meal, pictured right, in the presence of a number of officials.

Fortunately GulfWeekly was not invited, the Editor lives too close to a camel farm and wouldn’t have been able to face the ingredients friendly cousins on his daily doggy walk.

First place went to Chef Amit Gomes and his winning sandwich was placed on the restaurant menus in the Palace for guests and visitors ‘interested’ in meals inspired by local heritage.

I think I’ll stick to the shaikh and shaikha salt ’n’ pepper sets at the souk.
