FOURTEEN years after a giant lizard wreaked havoc across Manhattan, Warner Bros and Legendary Pictures reintroduces the classic monster in a reboot of Godzilla.
The Japanese classic was released in 1954 and then remade in 1998 when it took $379 million in the worldwide box office. It is regarded as one of the longest film franchises in history as it has spawned more than 25 films, TV programmes, video games and book series.
Teaser footage of the reboot along with a poster was unveiled at San Diego’s Comic-Con brought so much excitement amongst fans with it’s grittier and more realistic style. The film is to be released on May 16 2014 in the US and will be in 3D.
Director Gareth Edwards, known for Monsters, will be helming the cameras.
Legendary Pictures’ Thomas Tull said: "Our plans are to produce the Godzilla that we, as fans, would want to see. We intend to do justice to those essential elements that have allowed the character to remain as pop-culturally relevant for as long as it has."
