Gulf Weekly Annual Pro Am tournament action tees off

THE Royal Golf Club’s fifth annual Pro Am tournament is all set to tee off today having attracted the Intercontinental Regency Bahrain as its key sponsor.

The event will feature three amateur players per team, each led by a PGA professional as they battle for a share of the prize. The professionals include the Royal Golf Club’s Chris Kelby as well as various other teaching professionals from around the GCC and beyond.

"We’re delighted to welcome Intercontinental Regency Bahrain on board as the new lead sponsor of this very popular tournament,î said Paul Crowe, the Royal Golf Club’s director of golf operations. ìThe event always attracts a number of very high caliber amateur golfers as well as some of the GCC’s top golf professionals."

This year for the first time, competitors in the Pro Am will be able to take advantage of the VPAR digital hand-held scorepads, which do away with the need for traditional scorecards and pencils.

Scores entered into the devices are fed through to real time leaderboards located around the course and club house so that spectators and officials can keep track of progress.
ìWe are very excited to introduce this fantastic new software to Bahrain for the first time,î explained Jeremy Gray, sales director of VPAR.

A number of corporate teams will compete in this year’s tournament including Bahrain Golf Association and VPAR. Other supporters include the Royal Golf Club’s corporate partners VIVA, Euro Motors and HSBC as well as Intercontinental Regency Hotel as the official title sponsor and BMMI, the official beverage sponsor.

There will also be representatives present from AXA, Seef Dental, Crestlink, Ecco, DHL, Ping, TaylorMade and GulfWeekly.
