Gulf Weekly Venus go down to Arsenal Yellow in thriller

The fourth season of the GulfWeekly-sponsored Arsenal Soccer School Ladies League has kicked off at Soccer City in Janabiya with new faces, high drama and plenty of goalmouth action.

Newcomers Venus faced a very young Arsenal Yellow team who themselves gave debuts to three players. A thrilling encounter in which the lead kept changing hands, Arsenal Yellow finished as 5-4 winners with a hat-trick from Samantha Turner and Kia Hanahoe becoming the youngest-ever League goal-scorer at the tender age of 11.

Goals for Venus came from Meredith Mccue who notched a brace, and one apiece from Fatiha Amozlouf and Tala Bashmi.

The battle between last season’s top two, St Christopher’s Seniors and Joga Bonito, was equally as tense with a last-minute penalty giving the schoolgirls a share of the points in a 2-2 draw.

Millie Gallagher grabbed the two for St Christopher’s while Joga’s Sara Jalal and Eman Ebrahim clinched one each.

In the third game, the most improved team from last season, Eastern Flames, continued to show how much their game has advanced by narrowly going down 3-1 to a strong Arsenal Red side.

All three games were tight and exciting with some great play being displayed by all six teams. This bodes well for what is predicted to be the closest fought battle so far for the GulfWeekly Trophy.

Earlier this week Arsenal Red played Venus, Arsenal Yellow went up against St Chris and Joga battled the Flames.
