It was only May when comedian Andy Samberg left Saturday Night Live (SNL), but he is now returning to the small-screen with his own comedy series.
The 34-year-old has officially signed up to star in an untitled pilot episode for a Fox series written by Mike Schur and Dan Goor, who explained that they created the role with the comedian in mind.
The mockumentary style show follows a diverse group of detectives in a precinct at the very edge of New York City. Samberg is said to play the lead detective as well as taking on the role of producer for the series.
Since leaving SNL, Samberg has starred in two films, That’s My Boy alongside Adam Sandler and the animated hit movie Hotel Transylvania. He was also part of a six episode BBC Three sitcom entitled Cuckoo as well as appearing in Celeste & Jesse Forever.
The series is still in preparation and is set to premiere in Autumn next year.
During his seven-year stint on SNL, Samberg, along with his Lonely Island cohorts Akiva Schaffer and Jorma Taccone, helped usher the venerable sketch comedy show into the digital age with their viral digital shorts.
