The hottest show in town is being staged at the Sofitel Bahrain Zallaq Thalassa Sea & Spa Resort this week with a Mexican Food and Cultural Festival.
A troupe of traditional dancers, a superb singer and three specialist chefs have flown over from Mexico to ensure the celebrations are authentic.
The festival was launched on Thursday evening with VIP guests in attendance to celebrate the sound, culture and taste of the South American country and Executive Chef Sofia Sahagun and her two assistants Chef Cristina Diaz Couder and Chef Cristina Valles were on hand to discuss the dishes they had created.
Chef Couder, from the Hotel Hacienda in San Cristobal, comes from the city of Guanajuato, nestled in the mountains of central Mexico, and the rest of the party have travelled from Coahuila, in the north, close to the US border.
"We are happy to introduce to diners the true taste of Mexico with many traditional dishes," said Chef Couder. "The fish and chicken dishes are proving very popular and everyone appears to love our sauces!"
The buffet spread is cleverly signposted, with clear markers informing diners which are the spiciest dishes. Highlights included Filete de Pescado a los Chiles – a white fish with dry chilli custard, described as ‘half spicy’ and the Medallones de Camaron en Salsa de Chipotle, a crown shrimp with crËme chipotle sauce, completely hits the spot.
The festival runs until Friday evening, with the buffet dinner and entertainment costing BD18 net, or BD22 net with selected beverages.
