Gulf Weekly Arsenal teams triumph as Yellows stay atop the league table

THE climax of the GulfWeekly-sponsored Arsenal Soccer School Bahrain Ladies League is closer with only three games to go and four teams still vying to lift the coveted Premiership trophy.

Week seven resulted in wins for both Arsenal teams and Joga Bonito. In a very exciting game, Venus took the lead against Arsenal Red with an excellent goal by Anastasia Salinas, but the Reds showed remarkable resilience and fighting spirit in staging a comeback with fine goals from Rama Salem and Reema Al Qassab.

Joga Bonito and Eastern Flames also played out an exciting match, with the Joga team, back to full strength for the first time in two weeks, winning 3-1. The Joga scorers were Ebba Al Khamees and Sara Alaali with a brace, with the reply for the Saudi team coming from Catherine Hoban.

Arsenal Yellows continue to be the side to watch in terms of goals scored and conceded! Their 7-4 win against St Christopher’s Seniors means that they have scored 40 goals so far in the league, 23 more than any other team … but they have also conceded 26, which is the second highest in the league. However, their win keeps the youngsters top of the league by two points.

Hotshot 12-year-old Kia Hanahoe was on the score sheet again, as so often this season, proving that if you are good enough you are old enough, with the other goals coming from the two experienced players, Sam Turner and Deena Rahman. The St Chris replies came from Millie Gallagher, who notched a hat-trick and Farah Al Anzarouti.

Next week’s action will go a long way to determine where the honours are going to go to, with the top two teams, and third- and fourth-placed teams playing each other.
