THE stage is set for an exciting weekend of top-class motorsport thrills with Bahrain International Circuit’s (BIC) National Racing Festival taking place at Sakhir.
The three-day event, which begins today and ends Friday, will offer double the delight for race fans as two of the kingdom’s most popular series will be putting on a show, namely the Bahrain Drag Racing Championship and the BIC 2,000cc Challenge.
Action gets underway tonight along BIC’s world-class quarter-mile strip with drag racers taking their cars and bikes out for testing in preparation for the season’s second round of competition. Their qualifying runs follow tomorrow while racing will be held from 6pm on Friday evening.
The 2,000cc Challenge, on the other hand, will be staging the third round of its current championship on Friday. Practice and Qualifying will take place in the morning, to be followed by a pair of 15-lap races in the afternoon.
Racing will be taking place along BIC’s 2.550km Inner Track, which features the most challenging parts of the entire circuit.
The festival is being organised by BIC in co-operation with the Bahrain Motor Federation, the Bahrain Drag Racing Club and the Circuit Racing Club and many talented racers from across Bahrain and the wider Middle East will be taking part.
More than 100 competitors are expected to battle it out in the 12-competition categories for both cars and motorbikes in the Bahrain Drag Racing Championship.
All are welcome to attend the festival and tickets are available at the Welcome Centre located at BIC’s main entrance. Start line tickets cost BD5 apiece while Batelco Grandstand tickets are BD3 each. The cost covers the action on Thursday and Friday.
Meanwhile, tickets to watch the 2,000cc Challenge on Friday cost BD2 per person. All tickets are half the price for children aged 15 years old and below.
