THE Mercedes Star Hackers Team were crowned as champions of the Viva Corporate Night Golf League 2012 at the Royal Golf Club after a nervy sudden death play-off in their final match against the Awal Team.

It was Peter Thompson’s putt on the 18th green that secured victory for the Mercedes team. The squad, comprising Rob Lane, Graeme Newport, Sara Thompson, Peter Thompson, Kevin Ross and Paul Carpenter won tickets to a Manchester United match of their choice in 2013 as well as a new BlackBerry smartphone each, provided by Viva.

A play-off was also needed to separate third and fourth place in the Grand Final. Seef Dental eventually triumphed over the Bahrain Defense Force team, following a 5 nett 4 on the 18th Green from Adam Guy.

A Texas Scramble tournament was also held. The Fore Golf team took the title with a net score of 30 while Ronan Armstrong won the nearest the pin side contest.

The clubs’ junior golfers were also honoured at the prize-giving ceremony and barbecue, following the recent conclusion of the VIVA Junior Order of Merit Series, which took place on the Club’s Wee Monty par 3 course. Taimur Malik was the overall winner of the under 12 age category, Nayel Al Borshaid won the under 16 section and Fahad Al Hakam became champion in the under 21 category.
