Gulf Weekly St Christopher’s School girls and boys teams steal limelight

Last weekend saw a plethora of junior football activity as St Christopher’s School in Saar hosted a competition for the British Schools of the Middle East.

Their efforts were rewarded with a victory in both the boys and girls tournaments winning their respective titles.

The girls were the first out of the blocks with a 1-0 victory over Dhahran. Despite dominating their opening matches they were slightly fortuitous in the final, winning thanks to an own goal.

Under pressure to match their counterparts, the boys exhibited attractive football throughout, scoring 15 goals and conceding none in their seven matches. Despite early nerves resulting in missed opportunities, the boys eventually ran out comfortable 2-0 winners over Jeddah.

The final was nearly an all-St. Christopher’s affair, Jeddah only finding their way past the semi-final stage due to success in a nerve-wracking penalty shoot-out over another team for the hosts.

The BSME weekend followed the Bahrain Primary School tournament.

St Christopher’s Girls again lifted the title although in the boys section it was the British School of Bahrain that was triumphant.
