The Whisperer

IT appears that there was a Butterball turkey shortage in the kingdom, leaving Christmas shoppers rallying for big birds. One shopper in particular had to make a couple of stops before coming across a 13-pound butterball – whom she named ‘Benny the bird’ – at a well-known supermarket in Juffair. Guess this lucky family will be having tons of yummy turkey leftovers for Boxing Day.

As the happy shopper picked up Benny, who was really heavy, and began to waddle frantically towards the till before she was cut off by another shopper. He abruptly stopped and said: ìOh sorry, go ahead, your purchase looks pretty heavy.î To which Benny’s owner replied: ìYes, actually he is.î

Butterball turkeys are an American favourite. The corporation is known for being the largest vertically-integrated turkey producer in the US.

However, of late, Butterball has been getting a lot of negative publicity as reports have surfaced of animal abuse and that its turkeys are not halal, an issue for many Muslims celebrating the festive season.
